Our Story

The reasons behind our why!

As passionate young cricket enthusiasts, we have heartbreakingly witnessed the decline in youth cricket played in New Zealand.

Recent studies show since the 2000s the portion of kiwi kids playing cricket in primary through to secondary schools have fallen by over 60%. These shocking numbers have occurred in an era where our national teams the Blackcaps and Whiteferns are scaling unprecedented highs, with the Blackcaps making back to back World cup finals in recent years.

Both short and long-term consequences are that many kiwi kids are not getting the thrill of hitting, throwing, bowling and catching, all vital skills developed in cricket. And perhaps, more importantly, aren't experiencing the camaraderie of teamwork and mental resilience taught in cricket.

With all this in mind, we at Future Cricket Stars decided something needs to change. We have created a team of superstar coaches with the main goal to teach the basic skills of the game whilst focusing on having fun and giving it a go. We hope to provide an opportunity for all boys and girls to feel the adrenaline rush of smacking the ball to the boundary, taking a diving catch or bowling out the oppositions best player.
